Alstom to supply GT13E2 gas turbines.

Alstom has signed a contract worth around €40 million with the Rivers State Government of Nigeria to deliver a GT13E2 gas turbine to the Port Harcourt power plant located in Rivers State, Nigeria.

Nigeria’s current electricity generation capacity is below 4000 MW, and the Port Harcourt region has undergone some drastic power shortages. In this context, the project shows the commitment of the government to fulfil its promise of providing more power.

The GT13E2 is one of Alstom’s most successful gas turbines. With an output of 182.2 MW, this gas turbine is the largest and most efficient turbine of its class on the market thanks to its cost efficiency and flexibility. Its ability to adjust to fluctuations in demand and fuel prices, allows a plant owner to maximise profits.

The construction of the turbine has already started and it is scheduled to enter in operation by the end of 2011. The gas turbine and generator rotors will be constructed in Birr (Switzerland), one of Alstom’s most advanced European manufacturing facilities. The final assembly of the turbine will be made in Mannheim (Germany), whereas the generator will be put together in Breslau (Poland).

Guy Chardon, Senior Vice President of Alstom Power Thermal Products declared: “This new contract strengthens Alstom’s position in Nigeria for the gas turbine power plant market and shows Alstom’s leading position as the preferred equipment supplier in the energy market of the region”.
