From mid-May onward, customers with the Savonlinja bus company will be able to opt for a lower-emission journey. In cooperation with Neste, Savonlinja is introducing a surcharge, called Green Travel, on the normal bus ticket price. The customer is free to decide the amount of this additional charge. Savonlinja will use the money collected through the Green Travel service to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by fueling its buses with Neste MY Renewable Diesel™, which is produced entirely from waste and residues. At a ceremony in Athens earlier today representatives of the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Independent Power Transmission Operation (IPTO) signed a EUR 178 million long-term loan to finance construction of the first power interconnector between mainland Greece and the country’s largest island Crete. The new twenty year EIB financing will support 50% of the costs of the new electricity link. The Crete interconnector, comprising two alternating current (AC) 150kV submarine cables, will be built between the Malea peninsula in the Peloponnese and Kissamos Bay in Crete. The European Investment Bank (EIB) has signed a SEK 1 billion (EUR 95 million) loan agreement with Rikshem AB (publ). The Swedish property developer and owner will use the long-term financing facility to renovate housing stock to higher energy efficiency standards. Most of the properties concerned are to be found in Uppsala and Stockholm, with further real estate in cities such as Västerås, Norrköping, Östersund and Helsingborg. Over the next few years, Italy’s gas-dominated power market will transform as wind and solar capacity catches up and coal-fired assets are phased out. This is according to a new S&P Global Ratings report analysing Italy’s National Energy Strategy, which aims to increase the share of renewable sources to 30% by 2030.
