Who are WoREA?
The World Renewable Energy Association (WoREA®) is the driving force behind global renewable energy implementation and is building a strong renewables industry to power the World through advocacy and education.
As the sole trade association representing our members and their businesses, WoREA acts exclusively as project coordinators from concept to completion, advising and specifiying firms and products during all stages of the project.
As the global trade association for the renewables industry, WoREA employs more than 400,000 industry professionals and members, representing all organizations and businesses that promote, manufacture, install and support the development of renewable energy. WoREA works with its member companies to build jobs and diversity, champion the use of cost-competitive renewable energy in every country, remove market barriers and educate the public on the benefits of renewable energy.
Our Vision
Our vision is to represent an industry that will be the single largest source of new energy generation over the coming decades and to grow as the international voice of a larger, more unified and more diverse industry.
Our Story
The World Renewable Energy Association (WoREA hereafter) was originally founded in 2004 as an online forum and community, by Mark Nicholls, a Cambridge University professor for Energy & Sustainability. WoREA grew exponentially and quickly became the World’s Number 1 Renewables Network, attracting over 15 million visitors monthly, with over 120,000 registered users in 2017. To date, we have been nominated for over 80 industry awards and partner with 50+ renewable energy related events globally each year.
WoREA was primarily set-up to promote, advocate and advise individuals, start-ups, established businsses and governing bodies on the benefits of renewable energy technologies. Prior to the merger, the association represented over 200,000 renewable energy professionals globally, in over 50 countries.
World Of Renewables & WREA merged in August 2018. As a result of this union, World Of Renewables and WREA formed a brand new association – The World Renewable Energy Association (WoREA hereafter). WoREA now represents over 340,000 renewable energy professionals globally, within the bioenergy, biomass, CHP/cogeneration, electric vehicles and energy storage, geothermal, hydropower, marine, solar thermal & solar photovoltaics and wind energy sectors. Together, we employ over 1 million industry professionals and have representation in 91% of all major operational projects.
