How WoREA collects, uses and protects your personal information when you use World of Renewables.

Who we are

World of Renewables is run by The World Renewable Energy Association (WoREA) (“WoREA”, “we”, “us”), a membership association owned by its members and executives. We are the controller of the personal information described in this policy.

Information we collect

• Account details: username, email address and password (stored encrypted), and name and profile details you give us, such as a short biography.
• Membership details: industry sector, industry type and country; on paid plans also company name, job title, contact number, website and your interest in advertising or our media kit; your plan, dates and history.
• Payments: payments are made through Stripe. We receive confirmation of payment, the amount, date and the last digits and expiry of the card, but never your full card details.
• My WoREA activity: items you save, companies and sectors you follow, and your alert and newsletter preferences.
• Content you add: company listings, projects, events, jobs, products, opportunities, press releases, reviews and anything else you submit.
• Messages: what you send us through contact and enquiry forms or by email.
• Sign in with Google: if you use it, Google shares your name, email address and profile picture with us.
• Usage and device information: IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed and how you arrived, collected by our servers, by our security tools and, if you agree, by analytics cookies.

How we use it and why

• To provide your account and membership (performing our contract with you): creating and running your account, taking payments, giving you access to your plan, My WoREA, alerts and the tools you use.
• To publish what you ask us to (contract): showing your listings and submissions on the website.
• To send you service emails (contract): account, payment, renewal and security messages.
• To send our newsletters and briefings (legitimate interests, and consent where the law requires it): you can change the frequency or switch them off in My WoREA, or unsubscribe from any newsletter.
• To answer enquiries (legitimate interests): including membership, partnership and advertising enquiries.
• To keep the website safe and working (legitimate interests): preventing spam, fake accounts and misuse, fixing problems and improving the website.
• To measure and fund the website (consent): analytics and advertising cookies, only if you agree. See our Cookie Policy.
• To meet legal obligations (legal obligation): for example keeping financial records.

We do not sell your personal information.

Who we share it with

We use trusted service providers who process information on our behalf and only as we instruct:

• Hostinger (website hosting and delivery);
• Stripe (card payments);
• email providers that deliver our emails and newsletters, such as Mailrelay and Hostinger Reach;
• Google (Sign in with Google, Google Analytics and, if you agree to advertising cookies, Google AdSense) and StatCounter (visitor statistics).

Information you choose to publish, such as a company listing, event or press release, is public. We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or with professional advisers.

International transfers

Some of our providers process information outside the UK, for example in the United States. Where they do, we rely on safeguards recognised under UK law, such as the UK-US data bridge or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement and addendum.

How long we keep it

• Account and membership information: while your account is open. If you close your account we delete or anonymise it within 12 months, unless we need to keep it for the reasons below.
• Payment and accounting records: six years, as UK law requires.
• Enquiries and messages: up to two years after we last hear from you.
• Content you published that remains part of the public record (for example a press release): for as long as it stays on the website, unless you ask us to remove it.

Your rights

You have the right to ask for a copy of your information, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, to take it to another provider, and to withdraw consent at any time. You can update most details yourself in My WoREA and your membership account. To make a request, email memberships@worldofrenewables.com; we will reply within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, please tell us. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

Security

We use encrypted connections, access controls and reputable providers to protect your information. No system is completely secure, so please use a strong, unique password and keep it private.

Children

The website is for professionals and is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. The latest version is always on this page, with the date it was last updated. If we make significant changes we will tell members by email.
