The technology group Wärtsilä and Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology LUT, a Finnish public university, have signed a research agreement on strategic power system modelling with the aim of understanding and developing paths towards 100% renewable energy systems. The agreement was signed in March. The scope of the agreement covers collaboration on detailed energy system modelling of the transition taking place with the global energy sector. Beatrice Offshore Windfarm Limited (BOWL) is a joint venture development led by SSE Renewables (40%), Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (35%) and Red Rock Power Limited (25%). Global renewable energy company RES has ramped up its strategy to grow in the renewable energy support services market by taking over O&M contracts for six wind farm sites from Ainscough Wind Energy Services (AWES), securing nine jobs in rural England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The European Investment Bank has given its in-principle agreement to support the financing of Europe’s first home-grown gigafactory for lithium-ion battery cells, Northvolt Ett, in Sweden.
