Geminor has signed a five year contract to export secondary fuels, or RDF, from Iceland to an energy-from-waste (EfW) plant in the Netherlands. The waste will be used as a fuel to produce electricity, steam and heat for industry and district heating. The first shipment will leave Iceland this summer, and regular shipments will commence from October. According to the agreement, a total of 70 000 tonns of RDF will be exported to the European continent from Iceland in the five years to come. STROMNESS AND LONDON, UK – June 5, 2019 –  Schneider Electric, the leader in digital transformation of energy management and automation, today announced a project to supply locally produced ‘green’ electrical power to the MV Hamnavoe NorthLink ferry while docked in Stromness, Orkney, due to get underway shortly. Earlier this year, South Miami Mayor Philip Stoddard went “off the grid” for seven days and lived entirely on energy from the solar panels attached to the roof of his home. Stoddard, a longtime critic of Florida Power and Light who is also a Florida International University biologist, told the Miami Herald last month he unplugged from the power grid as a “trial run” for potential outages during this year’s hurricane season. GE Renewable Energy announced today it signed with the Enel Group’s renewable business line Enel Green Power (EGP) a three-year agreement to provide predictive Operation and Maintenance (O&M) capabilities to the group’s hydro plants in Spain with a total capacity of up to 3.2 GW through a combination of digital tools and consultative services. The UK and Azerbaijan have committed to renew combined efforts to tackle challenges facing the energy sector, including building on growing renewable energy sectors in both countries. In trade talks in London this week (Wednesday 22 May), the two nations agreed to further strengthen their existing trade relationship. Aggreko partnered with National Grid U.S. to complete the installation of a 2MW/3.8MWh battery storage system in Pulaski, New York.  The system, which is the first of its kind in National Grid’s U.S. service area, will provide supplementary electricity load relief to the utility’s customers at peak times, enhancing grid stability in the upstate New York area. The UK is quickly becoming the epicentre of the offshore wind industry. Point in case: On Monday, the first part of the world’s largest and furthest offshore wind farm came online.
