Leading France’s wind power revolution, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has been awarded the firm order from the EDF Renewables-Enbridge-wpd consortium for the 448 MW Courseulles-sur-Mer offshore wind power project. Located 10 km off the Bessin coast, the project brings the total capacity awarded to Siemens Gamesa by the consortium in France to approx. 1 GW. Both the wind turbine nacelles and blades for the Courseulles-sur-Mer project are scheduled to be produced at the Siemens Gamesa facility currently under construction in Le Havre. SAE, the global sustainable energy generation company and technology developer, is pleased to announce that its Scottish built tidal turbine and generation equipment have been successfully installed in the Goto Island chain in Japan. The tidal turbine clocked its first 10MWh of generation within the first ten days of operation and is now producing clean electricity in Japan. The project included leasing tidal generation equipment and providing offshore construction services to Kyuden Mirai Energy (“KME”) for a pilot turbine located in the straits of Naru Island, within the southern Japanese Goto island chain. UK Power Networks has announced a major programme to kick start the ‘Green Recovery,’ by cutting the cost of green energy projects. The energy network, which keeps the lights on for more than 18 million people across London, the East and South East of England, is investing up to £80m to supercharge projects that contribute towards the UK’s commitment to reach Net Zero by 2050. London, Tuesday 2 February 2021: Over three-fifths (62%) of UK energy consumers are more likely to purchase a product or service that is sustainable, with over 40% of under 35s willing to pay a premium for sustainable energy, a new EY survey reveals today. A Sussex village could hold one of the keys to helping the UK reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050. Residents in Barcombe, East Sussex, are helping their local electricity network operator to create a model roadmap for ‘greener’ home heating that will in time show the way for other communities to follow suit. Vössing Engineers have awarded Fugro a geotechnical and water consulting contract to support the route planning, permitting and installation of 106 km of underground power cables on Section 2 of Germany’s new Suedlink powerline. Approximately 700 km long and due to be completed by 2028, the new Suedlink powerline is the country’s largest energy infrastructure project and will effectively transport electricity generated by offshore wind in the north of Germany to meet demand in the south. Renewable energy business, Anesco, is to partner with Gresham House, a specialist alternative asset manager, on a 200MW ground mounted solar PV portfolio in the UK. The agreement will see Gresham House funding the portfolio of grid scale assets, which will comprise sites ranging in size from 20MW to 50MW generation capacity. The shovel-ready sites form part of Anesco’s growing development pipeline. All engineering, procurement and construction will be handled by Anesco, with the company also providing long term operations and maintenance once the sites are energised.
