Often the biggest innovations come from unexpected sources.
Vancouver, CANADA –
Suncor Energy, developer of the Athabasca oil sands, is not only a global leader in fossil fuel exploration, refining and development, but also at the vanguard of developing renewable energy resources in Canada.
Leading the company as it expands its renewable energies is newly named President Steve Williams who will join the GLOBE 2012 Opening Plenary on Innovation and its Role in Driving Sustainability, March 14th, 2012 in Vancouver. Williams’ 35 years of experience in the international energy industry and record of environmental leadership will give attendees a unique perspective on the worldwide transition to a greener economy.
Currently, Suncor has six wind farms in operation with a generating capacity substantial enough to power 100,000 Canadian homes, and more wind farms in development. In December, Suncor was honoured with “The Fuel Change Award 2011” for its pioneering work in the development and commercialization of biofuels at the 8th Annual Canadian Renewable Fuels Summit in Calgary. Meanwhile, it continues to confront the environmental issues associated with oil sands.
