Polish Bioenergy Project powers up 2-MW biogas CHP

(SeeNews) – Oct 5, 2012 – Polish biogas technology firm Bioenergy Project yesterday officially put online a 1.99-MW agricultural biogas-fired combined heat and power (CHP) plant in the Konopnica village near Rada Mazowiecka town in central Poland.

KWE – Technika Energetyczna, part of Italy-based cogeneration and green energy firm Gruppo AB, has carried out the project on a turnkey basis. The plant comprises two Ecomax cogeneration units designed by Gruppo AB that use two GE Jenbacher gas engines of US engineer General Electric (NYSE:GE).

The CHP plant is estimated to produce 16,800 MWh of power and 17,024 MWh of heat a year. Bioenergy Project will sell its power output to the grid and will supply the heat output to Rada Mazowiecka and the surrounding industrial buildings through the district heating network.

Poland is one of the main pillars of Gruppo AB’s business development, said Mario Pipitone, general sales manager of Gruppo AB. He added that the Polish biogas sector has huge growth potential. The stable outlook for government support and the expected significant rise in energy prices and demand for energy make the biogas sources competitive for stable income for farmers, investors and energy companies.

The development of the renewable energy sector is one of the strategies of the Polish Energy Policy by 2030. According to the Polish Energy Market Agency, the country will have 607 operating biogas plants with combined capacity of 631 MW that will produce a total of some 3.4 TWh of power by 2030.
