Macquarie to buy into US renewables developer with $1.7 billion deal

A series of funds managed by Australian investor Macquarie Asset Management have agreed a $1.725 billion deal to take a “significant minority stake” in D.E. Shaw Renewable Investments (DESRI).

DESRI develops, owns and operates utility-scale wind, solar and battery storage projects in the US. It currently has more than 6GW of projects in operation or under construction, 4GW of contracted pre-construction projects, and a 25GW-plus pipeline.

DESRI also has long-term power deals in place with corporations and utilities in the US.

The transaction is subject to closing conditions, including regulatory approvals.
