The proprietary map from Pillsbury law – the first major law firm to launch a dedicated hydrogen practice – is available at www.thehydrogenmap.com and already tracks over 200 blue and green hydrogen projects worldwide. Notable findings include: While57 hydrogen projects (26% of those tracked) are currently operational, 58 others will be in development by the end of 2021, and construction of another 92 is scheduled to begin in the next decade. Global growth is thus far being driven by Western Europe and Asia Pacific, with these regions accounting for more than 83% of knownlow-carbon hydrogen projects, but Hydrogen projects in the U.S. are…

The government has been warned that it faces a major public backlash if it attempts to use an increase in domestic gas prices as a way of forcing homeowners to buy expensive low carbon heating appliances in own homes. A consultation is due to launch shortly which is believed will propose an increase to gas prices to encourage consumers to ditch their gas boiler in favour of an electric alternative, such as a heat pump. However, a new survey of homeowners has found that the public is adamantly opposed to this approach, with predictions of a public backlash made by…

Now that the world has placed a greater focus on the effects we have on the environment, finding more environmentally friendly ways to source our energy is vital. The world has already found some innovative ways to sustainably produce energy without the reliance on coal, oil, and natural gas. However, there is still more to be done. Other than the changes we as individuals make, businesses need to adapt their operations to use greener sources of energy – such as wind power. With Boris Johnson pledging that by 2030 offshore wind farms will generate enough power for every home in…

If we take a look at the evolution of transportation systems around the world, we can see the future of cars is electric—but how far is the future? Is it too distant? Actually, no. There are people across the world who would buy an electric car tomorrow — if only they had easy access to a charger. Across the UK, the EV charging infrastructure is failing to keep up with the demand for electric vehicles. A recent Policy Exchange think tank stated that the UK would need around 400,000 public charge points by the turn of the decade in order…

See the power of a rock avalanche. It is a reminder of potential energy. In Switzerland monster trucks carry ore down from mountainside quarries, the regenerative braking creating almost enough energy to get the empty truck back up again. In an open-pit mine of the future, monster trucks carrying ore round and up the sides could be battery-electric: the trucks go down empty, but 30 minutes of regenerative braking saves tens of kWh of electricity that would otherwise be needed at a charging station, reducing truck availability. See the IDTechEx report, “Electric Vehicles in Construction, Agriculture and Mining 2020-2030”. It…

Nearly £1 million of smart investment in the South East’s electricity network is set to pave the way for new generators of renewable energy to connect to the grid. UK Power Networks is rolling out new ‘load blinding relays’ across Kent, Surrey and Sussex to unlock capacity for new connections. The £932,000 project will see the devices installed on 80 transformers across 35 sites, from now until 2024. In total the new protection relay technology will release 469 Mega Volt Amperes (MVA) – unlocking enough capacity to install a rooftop solar panel on 127,445 houses. That’s the equivalent of connecting…
