Q.PRO and Q.PEAK modules withstand wind speeds of up to 240 km/h
Q CELLS G3 series: Superior quality and robustness combined with top yields make for market-leading PV modules
[Thalheim, Germany, October 7, 2013] – Hanwha Q CELLS modules proved that they are built to weather even the strongest storms: the Q CELLS Q.PRO-G3 and Q.PEAK-G3 solar modules have been certified by Australian James Cook University’s Cyclone Testing Station, QLD, to withstand cyclones with wind speeds of up to 240 km/h. By passing the stringent cyclone tests, the G3 series modules by far surpassed the IEC standard testing requirements, thus underpinning once again that the latest generation of Q CELLS modules with their 35 mm frame not only provides top yields and advantages in logistics, but also offer improved robustness.
“Passing the Cyclone Test at James Cook University’s renowned Cyclone Testing Station showcases the superior quality of our solar modules, engineered in Germany”, said Andreas von Zitzewitz, COO of Hanwha Q CELLS. “Withstanding a 1 in 500 year cyclone in Australia’s most severe wind region is something only very few PV modules are capable of.”
Q CELLS modules can withstand a 1 in 500 year cyclone in Australia
The Cyclone Testing Station subjected the modules to two types of tests to ascertain their strength – a static and a dynamic test. During the first test, increasing pressure is being applied onto the modules’ back until it breaks. The second simulates the effects of dynamic loads by alternately pushing and releasing pressure onto the back of the module, all the while increasing the pressure. During the test, a maximum pressure of 7kPa was applied in a total of 10,360 cycles to simulate a cyclone as best as possible. Accordingly, the Q CELLS modules would have withstood cyclone Larry (2006) with wind speeds of up to 215 km/h. In addition, the modules proved to be strong enough to survive a 1 in 500 year cyclone in wind region C, the most severe region for Australian cities.
G3-module-series Q.PRO and Q.PEAK: top-yields meet market leading quality
The Q CELLS G3 series, which includes the Q.PEAK and Q.PRO modules, offers a performance of up to 275 Wp, combined with an innovative anti-reflection technology and tension-resistant frame design. The monocrystalline Q.PEAK-G3 as well as the polycrystalline Q.PRO-G3 modules reach market-leading efficiencies and temperature coefficients as well as up to 98 percent output at low-light conditions of 200 W/m2. The modules’ new 35 mm frame is particularly tension-resistant due to a special thermal treatment. The bonding of the high-tech frame and the laminates with high-quality silicon results in extremely stable solar modules. The usage of these high-tech materials allows for previously unattained quality and long-term durability.
