In light of the publication of the IEA’s new report out this morning forecasting a significant increase in renewables output in the coming years, Roy Bedlow, Founder and CEO of global renewable energy firm Low Carbon, has called for new efforts to boost grid infrastructure in the UK.

Roy Bedlow, Founder and CEO of Low Carbon;
“The IEA’s latest report reinforces the need to urgently accelerate efforts to boost grid infrastructure so we can enable the greater deployment of renewable technologies.
“The record global temperatures we have seen this summer highlight the scale of the climate challenge and the commitment that will be required to deliver the energy transition, which starts with sorting out the grid.
“Take the UK as a case in point, where some renewable projects have a grid connection date as late as 2037 and is inconsistent with aims to decarbonise.
“We need to ensure priority is given to building renewable energy infrastructure – a key component of this is to invest in the grid – but also speed up the grid connections process for renewable projects.
“This in turn will help provide clear market signals for investors to deploy the level of capital that is needed to deliver a clean energy system.”
Best,
Tim
