Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, 2 April 2019 – The decade-long trend of strong growth in renewable energy capacity continued in 2018 with global additions of 171 gigawatts (GW), according to new data released by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) today. The annual increase of 7.9 per cent was bolstered by new additions from solar and wind energy, which accounted for 84 per cent of the growth. The European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) will provide an independent performance assessment of Verdant Power’s 5th Generation (Gen5) tidal turbine system to be deployed for commercial demonstration in New York City’s East River in 2020. The deployment will be conducted under Verdant Power’s Roosevelt Island Tidal Energy (RITE) Project and be comprised of three Gen5 turbines mounted on a Verdant Power TriFrame™. Energy company Quantafuel and resource management company Geminor have entered a cooperation agreement to secure deliveries of plastic waste to Quantafuel’s plants for low emission fuel production. Since 2007 Quantafuel has developed and tested its own patented catalyst solution that converts plastic waste into low emission fuels and products for the petrochemical industry. The Norwegian company has previously opened a test production facility in Mexico, and in the third quarter of 2019 the first Scandinavian plant, located in Skive in Denmark, will be ready for production of diesel. Vortex Energy, a European renewable energy platform managed by the private equity arm of EFG Hermes, completed today the divestiture of a 49% stake in its Pan-European operational wind power portfolio managed and co-owned by EDPR, selling the stake to institutional investors advised by J.P.
