Siemens Gamesa today announces the signing of a firm order with ScottishPower Renewables to supply 95 units of its flagship SG 14-236 DD wind turbine to the East Anglia 3 wind power project in the North Sea, off England’s east coast, with a total capacity of 1.4 GW. 27 March 2023 – EDF Renewables has energised its first three solar farms in Ireland. The three solar farms, which are located in Wexford and Kilkenny, have a combined capacity of 17MW and will power the equivalent of 6,600 homes.* They are among the first utility-scale solar farms to be developed under the Government’s Renewable Electricity Support Scheme (RESS) and connected to the national grid. Hidroelectrica (the “Company”), the largest energy producer in Romania, yesterday signed a joint venture agreement with Masdar, a leading developer and operator of renewable energy projects in the UAE, for joint investment in off-shore wind farms and floating solar farms in Romania. The Welsh Government has granted consent for Wales’ first floating windfarm located 40km off the coast of Pembrokeshire. Project Erebus will house seven next-generation 14 megawatt turbines on floating platforms, providing enough low carbon energy to power 93,000 homes. Erebus is part of the first phase of a four gigawatt renewable energy development in the Celtic Sea, enough power for 4m homes. 0.5% of global carbon emissions could be captured during the normal crushing process of rocks New research suggests that around 0.5% of global carbon emissions could be captured during the normal crushing process of rocks commonly used in construction, by crushing them in CO2 gas. The paper ‘Mechanochemical processing of silicate rocks to trap CO2’ published in Nature Sustainability says that almost no additional energy would be required to trap the CO2.  0.5% of global emissions would be the equivalent to planting a forest of mature trees the size of Germany. The European Investment Bank (EIB) has granted a EUR 300 million loan to novobanco to facilitate the financing of projects undertaken by SMEs (firms with up to 250 employees), MidCaps (firms with up to 3000 employees) and Public Sector Entities (PSEs). The loan agreement was signed in Lisbon today. The EIB loan will finance small and medium-sized projects in eligible sectors. The European Investment Bank Group (EIBG) has signed a new contract with the Greek state for technical assistance from the banks’ Advisory Hub which will help facilitate crucial investments to boost energy efficiency and renewable energy investments on the country’s smaller and remote islands in various across the country.
