Lisbon, 28 May 2020: The WindFloat Atlantic project is taking one of the final steps towards becoming fully operational. The last of the three pre-assembled wind turbine platforms making up the project has left the Port of Ferrol today, heading for its final destination 20 km off the coast of Portugal at Viana do Castelo, in a journey that will take three days. Greencoat Capital LLP (“Greencoat”) has agreed to the acquisition of a 156 megawatt (“MW”) solar portfolio from BlackRock Real Assets (“BlackRock”) and Lightsource bp. The investment was made by Greencoat Solar II LP on behalf of a number of the UK’s largest pension funds. It will bring solar generating capacity of funds managed by Greencoat to almost 880MW. This transaction marks the first successful realisation for BlackRock’s Global Renewable Power II Fund and has provided investors with a combination of stable income and attractive capital growth at exit. Watson Farley & Williams (“WFW”) has advised REEF Development Ltd (“REEF”) on its acquisition of a 49.99 MW photovoltaic plant in Extremadura, Spain, from Viridi RE Development GmbH. The transaction was signed on 7 May 2020. Acting as transaction advisors, WFW carried out the due diligence process, the drafting and negotiation of the share purchase agreement, the development agreement, and certain ancillary agreements executed within the framework of the transaction. The technology group Wärtsilä’s capabilities in gas conversions for oil-fuelled power plants have again been recognised with a new order. Rofeica Energia, based in Barcelona, Spain, has ordered a Wärtsilä 34SG gas-fuelled engine generating set, enabling the company to secure its future in Spain’s Combined Heat and Power (CHP) market. Following two successful geotechnical data acquisition awards in the Taiwan offshore wind farm sector in 2020, Fugro IOVTEC Co. Ltd (Fugro IOVTEC) has secured their third offshore geotechnical site investigation project in Taiwan for the Hai Long 2 and Hai Long 3 offshore wind farms. The project will follow Fugro’s “Triple A” approach of acquiring, analysing and advising on Geo-data, and the contract will take around 10 months to complete.   The Hai Long offshore wind farms are being co-developed by Northland Power Inc, Yushan Energy and Mitsui & Co. At a meeting of the European Battery Alliance on Tuesday 19 May, European Investment Bank (EIB) Vice-President Andrew McDowell, confirmed the Bank’s commitment to supporting a strong, independent European battery industry. The alliance was initiated by European Commission Vice President Maroš Šefčovič in 2017, who also hosted the meeting. The Bank expects to increase its backing of battery-related projects to more than EUR 1 billion of financing in 2020.
