As a new infographic from Block-Builders.net shows, there have recently been many signs of progress in the field of hydrogen technology. For example, the price of green hydrogen has fallen by 50% since 2015. Forecasts indicate that it will fall by a further 30% by 2025. There are also signs of a paradigm shift in the purchase price of hydrogen-powered cars. For example, the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) has developed a low-cost model which could be sold for around €15,000. The average purchase price for a conventional new car in Germany currently stands at €33,580. One obstacle to widespread mobility applications…

Magnetic materials are key to producing electric vehicles. Many of the electric vehicles on the market use kilograms of magnetic materials to drive their electric motors. In fact, over 80% of electric cars sold globally utilized permanent magnet-based motors in 2019. These magnets are typically made with rare-earth materials such as neodymium and dysprosium, which have a very geographically constrained supply chain. China accounts for the vast majority of rare-earth production worldwide and this has, in the past, led to huge price volatility. In 2011, after China restricted its exports of rare-earths, the price of neodymium and dysprosium rose by…

Electricity generators across the South East and East of England are being urged to claim thousands of pounds in grants to help boost local energy output – before the next funding window closes on 10 November. Funding is on offer to electricity generators that were connected before February 2018 to upgrade the hardware that connects to the network, in a move that will also provide a boost to renewable energy generators, by helping them export more energy onto the network. All distributed generation could be impacted by this change, ranging from large wind and solar farms to office complexes or…

Operators of renewable energy schemes are at risk of significant financial losses due to being underinsured, warned an insurance specialist. In recent years, the renewable energy sector has grown at an exponential rate, thanks largely to technological advancements, governmental incentives and increased affordability. With PM Boris Johnson recently announcing that every home in the UK will be powered by electricity from offshore wind farms within a decade, this upward trend shows no signs of slowing. There are a raft of options available to those looking to launch a green energy project, from anaerobic digestion (AD) and hydroelectric schemes to wind,…
