Construction has officially begun on the 10-MW Hydrogen Park Murray Valley plant in Victoria, as announced today by the local ministry for climate change and energy.
Located in Wodonga, the AUD 65.4 million (USD 43.9 million/EUR 40.1 million) project, led by the Australian Gas Infrastructure Group (AGIG), aims to produce 500 tonnes of hydrogen annually. This hydrogen will be injected into the local gas network at blends of up to 10% and may also be used at future transport refueling stations.
The facility will feature an electrolyser supplied by LONGi Group, which will have eight times the capacity of the largest electrolyser currently operating in Australia. It will utilize recycled water from North East Water’s Wodonga Wastewater Treatment Plant.
“Producing renewable hydrogen at this scale is unprecedented in Australia, making this project a pioneering effort in boosting green hydrogen production, and that’s why we’re supporting it,” stated Chris Bowen, minister for climate change and energy.
The Hydrogen Park Murray Valley project has received substantial financial backing from the state, including AUD 36.1 million from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency and AUD 12.3 million from the Victorian Government. Additionally, the Clean Energy Finance Corporation has contributed AUD 3.22 million through the Advancing Hydrogen Fund.
“The Albanese Labor Government is committed to positioning Australia as a renewable energy leader, with initiatives like the AUD 4 billion Hydrogen Headstart program and a AUD 2 per kilogram hydrogen production tax incentive to accelerate the development of our renewable hydrogen industry,” said Josh Wilson, assistant minister for climate change and energy.
