Alstom signed a contract with Statkraft for the supply of new control systems and balance of plant equipment for the Tysso II hydro power plant in Skjeggedal in the south western part of Norway.

The contract includes the supply, installation and commissioning of new equipment (control systems, station transformers, local distribution systems, circuit breakers and 72 kV cabling to the two units). With this project, which is due to be completed in 2016 for unit 1 and in 2017 for unit 2, Alstom maintains its position as one of the leading equipment suppliers in the competitive Norwegian hydropower market.

Through this project, Statkraft will secure a more reliable operation of the Tysso II power plant that was built and commissioned in 1967, where Alstom delivered the original generator equipment.

“We are proud to reconfirm our good relationship with our customer Statkraft. This project endorses our strategy to support customers with a full services and retrofit offering to secure operational reliability and to optimize their asset management throughout the plant’s lifespan” said Eric Staurset, Country President Norway.

The high quality, advanced and reliable technical solutions offered, as well as a long track record of well managed projects in Norway, have been key factors to win this contract. Alstom is one of the major hydropower suppliers in the world and has been present in the Norwegian hydropower market since 1873. With an installed base accounting for more than a quarter of the world’s hydro facilities, Alstom has an extensive experience assessing and servicing, retrofitting and modernizing power plants in operation.
