Net capacity factor increase to up to 48% for ECO 110 and 122 wind turbines.
Alstom, announced today an upgrade of its 3 MW onshore ECO 100 Platform at the EWEA 2013 Annual Event in Vienna, confirming Alstom’s leading role in new generation of large high-efficiency wind turbines.
To maximise available wind resources and further reduce wind power’s cost of energy, Alstom is upgrading the ECO 110 turbine, currently designed for medium (Class II-A) wind sites, to a medium and high winds (IEC Class II-A, and IS Class) turbine. The ECO 122 turbine, currently suitable for Class III sites, is being upgraded to medium and low winds (IEC Class III-A, and II B Class) turbine. This upgrade increases the net capacity factor to up to 48% for both turbines.
With rotor diameters of 100 meters, 110 meters, and 122-meters, Alstom’s robust ECO 100 Platform wind turbines offer a high yield and outstanding efficiency across all wind classes. This range allows developers to select the best rotor location for each specific site. The combination of two or even three of these wind turbines models at the same wind farm has been named by Alstom as “POWEROF3™”. This unique offering optimises each project’s capacity factor by up to 20% whilst reducing its Balance of Plant costs by 15%. In addition, Alstom provides common spare parts, standardised operation and maintenance procedures for the whole site, allowing a lower cost of energy in a wide range of wind projects.
“The energy yield is the biggest lever we have to increase value for our customers. Our continued investment in this new generation of powerful and reliable wind turbines allows us to substantially improve the yield in all wind conditions, said Alfonso Faubel, Alstom Power’s Wind business Senior Vice President. Our ECO 100 platform is among the most proven 3 MW range platforms in the industry with over 750,000 cumulative operating hours since 2008, and more than 900 MW installed or under construction.”
