Vattenfall cancels biomass plant and turns to alternatives

Energy supplier Vattenfall has cancelled its plans for a biomass plant in Diemen, Netherlands.
Instead, the Swedish government-owned entity is looking to other options.
These include geothermal energy and residual warmth, according a cooperation agreement between Vattenfall and several municipalities – as well as the provinces of  Noord-Holland and Flevoland.
Project development plans for the biomass facility had been ongoing for a few years.
An agreement had been reached for a 120 MW facility, which woulf have been fuelled by wood pellets.
In June 2019, Vattenfall had made agreements with municipalities, which would have benefited from the plant – with environmental permits secured that September.
