The award for the Most Exciting Project of 2013 was a tightly run race. Each of the nominees for Strongest Project Pipeline has an impressive amount of MW under construction. Mainstream Renewable Power has undertaken a recent 400MW acquisition of Andes Energy and Enel Green Power has invested $100millioninto building on their current portfolio of 90MW. AES Gener came out on top as the winner, with their plan to invest $572million into solar energy projects in Chile.

The final award, Most Innovative Chilean Company, recognized national achievements in this exciting market. The shortlist included Kaltemp for developing Chile’s first solar PV plant- the 1.2MW Tambo Real Project and Fundacion Chile who have developed several successful companies including Solar Chile that was acquired by First Solar. The winner however was Antuko Energy, a Chilean energy trading company, who are developing an innovative project that will not finance construction projects, but rather create a fund to stabilize energy prices.

The awards were held alongside the 2nd Annual Chilean International Renewable Energy (CIREC), Chile’s largest and most established wind and solar power event. Opened by the Minister for Energy, Jorge Bunster, with contributions from other key government figures as well as the biggest developers and financiers active in Chile, CIREC 2013 continues to be the most important meeting of the year to drive forward the Chilean renewables market.
