News that July saw new records set in the UK’s production of solar power has been welcomed by an award-winning solar panels specialist.
Sunny weather combined with a recent surge in solar installations coming online across the country meant that, for the first time, solar power provided a record 15% of the UK’s total output at peak sunny periods this month.
It was estimated that the 15% line would be topped for the first time at around 2pm on Friday July 17th, but with more domestic and large commercial solar installations becoming active all the time, the figure is set to rise still further on sunny days throughout the summer.
Ged Rowbottom, director of award-winning solar panel company Solarlec, welcomed the news.
“Increasing the UK’s power output from free and clean renewable sources, rather than relying on traditional fossil fuels, has to be good news for everyone,” he said.
“It’s good for the environment and it’s certainly good news for our customers, who are seeing their energy bills cut buy up to 50% through installing solar panels and harvesting free power from the sun. On top of that, they are paid for every unit of electricity their system generates, through the Government’s Feed-in Tariff.”
Since it was founded in 1999, Government accredited Solarlec has supplied and fitted around 5,000 high quality renewable energy systems for delighted customers across the UK. Based in Burnley and with satellite offices in Exeter and Carlisle, the company is a member of the British Photovoltaic Association (BPVA).
Latest Government figures show there are now around 700,000 small-scale installations on the grid and Britain is currently installing solar capacity more quickly than any other European country. The sunny but fresher conditions typical of the British summer are actually better for generating solar power than the torrid summer heat of other climate zones, which can reduce solar panels’ generating capacities.
