The Danish Energy Agency (DEA) has granted RWE the offshore construction permit for its Thor offshore wind farm, enabling RWE to begin construction at sea in spring 2025.
RWE said that good progress is already being made on land, with the laying of cables and the construction of an onshore substation in the municipality of Lemvig.
At the beginning of next year, the developer will prepare the seabed for the construction activities, which will kick off in spring when the foundations are installed. Turbine installation is scheduled to commence in 2026.
In April last year, RWE selected Dajin Offshore and EEW SPC to deliver 36 monopiles each, together with secondary structures, for RWE’s Thor offshore wind farm.
The first units, which will be installed by Jan de Nul Group, already arrived at the Eemshaven Port in the Netherlands. From there, the monopiles will be shipped to the Thor offshore construction site in the Danish North Sea, located approximately 22 kilometres off the west coast of Jutland.

The offshore wind farm will feature Siemens Gamesa SG 14-236 DD wind turbines[1] installed on monopile foundations. Of the 72 turbines at the Thor project, 40 will be equipped with recyclable rotor blades[2].
“With our Thor project we are delivering Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm to date. But it is not just the size of the project that makes us ambitious. We are also leading the way with investments in new sustainable technology with recyclable rotor blades and turbine towers made of greener steel”, said Thomas Michel, COO of RWE Offshore Wind.
