The Rudrapur Municipal Corporation (RMC) has established a state-of-the-art waste management plant covering four acres, with an investment of Rs 16.8 crore, to tackle the growing garbage disposal issues in the Fazalpur Mehraula area of Udham Singh Nagar district. The city’s waste management challenges intensified due to a population surge following the development of the Pantnagar industrial estate, reported The Times of India.
Previously, waste was managed at the trenching ground on Kichha Road. Municipal Commissioner Naresh Chandra Durgapal stated, “We are committed to providing a sustainable, long-term solution for waste management. All preparations for this plant are in place, and we are currently reviewing tenders from three companies.” The facility is set to transform waste processing by employing advanced technology to convert garbage into biogas, manure, electricity, and other reusable resources. Designed to resemble an industrial facility, it will discreetly serve as a waste processing center. Garbage-laden vehicles will directly enter the plant, where automated systems will replace manual sorting. Plastic and other materials will be separated, and organic waste will be processed into biogas and fertilizer.
Durgapal also mentioned, “The plant will generate 6 kW of electricity daily, enough to power its operations and support various other functions. Surplus electricity will be supplied to the RMC office and the nearby AN Jha Govt Inter College hostel and campus.”
Efforts are underway to optimize the use of byproducts such as biogas, fertilizers, and plastic tiles produced by the plant. “This project is a major milestone in our goal to make Rudrapur cleaner and greener. We are working diligently to turn this vision into reality,” Durgapal added.
