RES Partners with CIP for Major Romanian Wind Farm Asset Management

October 22, 2026 · · World of Renewables

On 22 October 2026, RES, the world’s largest independent renewable energy company, announced a substantial asset management contract with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) for the Peștera II wind farm, located near Constanța in south-eastern Romania. This project, currently under construction, is anticipated to commence commercial operations by 2028.

Details of the Wind Farm Project

The Peștera II wind farm is set to have a capacity of 392 megawatts (MW) and is expected to generate sufficient clean electricity to power over 500,000 homes in Romania annually once operational. This development is part of a broader strategy to enhance the country’s renewable energy capabilities and contribute to its energy transition goals.

RES’s Role and Expertise

RES has been active in Romania since 2015, with its headquarters situated in Constanța. The local team will play a crucial role in supporting CIP throughout the construction phase and into the operational stage of the wind farm. Their expertise is aimed at ensuring that the project is optimally set up for long-term performance.

With a portfolio that includes over 15 gigawatts (GW) of renewable assets managed across 14 countries, RES possesses the necessary scale and expertise to provide high-quality asset management services. This new contract not only strengthens RES’s asset management business in Europe but also extends its collaboration with CIP, following previous contract wins in Greece, Belgium, Lithuania, and Italy earlier in the year.

Previous Collaborations and Future Prospects

In July 2025, RES was appointed as the asset manager for CIP’s Coalburn I Battery Energy Storage System in South Lanarkshire, Scotland, which is one of the largest battery storage projects in Europe. This previous experience highlights RES’s capability in managing diverse renewable energy projects, further solidifying its reputation in the industry.

Operational Control and Monitoring

RES’s asset management services are supported by operational control centres located in Glasgow (Scotland), Albacete (Spain), and Denver (United States). These centres provide continuous monitoring and control of renewable assets, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements while closely tracking performance metrics. This approach maximises energy production and extends the operational lifespan of each asset, which is crucial for maintaining profitability and efficiency in renewable energy projects.

Statements from Leadership

Juan Gutiérrez, CEO of Services at RES, commented on the partnership, stating, “Our growing partnership with CIP is focused on maximising the return from high-quality assets over their full lifetime. We bring together the scale of a global services business, including round-the-clock monitoring from our control centres. With our highly skilled team in Romania, we can provide CIP with the commercial and technical support to keep availability high and costs under control from the day the wind farm starts generating.”

Niels Holst, Partner at Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, also expressed optimism about the project, noting, “Romania has an important role to play in Europe’s energy transition, and the Peștera II wind farm will make a significant contribution to the country’s clean energy supply. RES brings deep asset management experience and a proven approach to getting new wind farms ready for operation, which will be valuable as we take the project from construction through to generation.”
