Reconomy, a leader in the circular economy sector, has expanded its collaboration with Severndale Academy in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, through various initiatives aimed at benefiting local communities. This partnership builds on previous successes, including the design of trophies for Reconomy’s annual internal awards, which were crafted by students using recycled materials.
This year, students from Severndale Academy were once again invited to create trophies for the We are Reconomy Awards, showcasing their creativity and craftsmanship. The awards ceremony provided an opportunity for students to attend and receive recognition for their contributions, reinforcing the positive impact of their work.
In addition to the trophy project, Reconomy sponsored a residential trip for Severndale students to Liverpool, allowing them to explore new environments and experiences outside their local area. Such initiatives are part of Reconomy’s broader commitment to social responsibility, particularly through its Reconomy Social Value Programme (RSVP), which aims to support community initiatives that enhance wellbeing and provide opportunities for underrepresented groups.
Since the inception of its social value efforts in 2018, Reconomy has generated £5.3 million in social value and plans to continue expanding these initiatives in the future. The partnership with Severndale Academy is a testament to this commitment, as it fosters educational and creative opportunities for students.
Dave Reynolds, Brand Manager at Reconomy, expressed satisfaction with the collaboration, noting the impressive quality of the trophies designed by the students and the positive feedback from Reconomy staff. He emphasized the importance of creating meaningful social value in the communities where the company operates.
Liz Harrison, Assistant Principal at Severndale, highlighted the enthusiasm of the students in participating in the trophy design project and their excitement about the trip to Liverpool. She also mentioned that the success of this initiative has led to interest from other local businesses seeking similar collaborations.
The partnership between Reconomy and Severndale Academy exemplifies how businesses can engage with local educational institutions to foster creativity and provide valuable experiences for students, ultimately contributing to the social fabric of the community.
