Reconomy, a specialist in the circular economy, has announced its acquisition of National Waste Associates (NWA), a prominent provider of outsourced managed waste services based in Glastonbury, Connecticut. This acquisition marks Reconomy’s sixth in the United States within a year, furthering its strategy to establish a significant foothold in the North American waste management market.
Founded in 1997, NWA manages waste services for approximately 2,900 locations across various sectors, including retail, healthcare, industrial services, and hospitality. The acquisition is part of Reconomy’s broader initiative to capitalize on the substantial waste management opportunities in the US, which generates ten times more waste than the UK and faces challenges such as low recycling rates and a heavy reliance on landfill and incineration.
With the integration of NWA, Lincoln Waste Solutions, Reconomy’s US brand, has ascended to become one of the top five waste and recycling management operators in the country. This strategic move not only enhances Lincoln Waste Solutions’ existing customer base, which includes numerous Fortune 500 companies, but also strengthens its operational capabilities and resource network.
Guy Wakeley, CEO of Reconomy, expressed pride in the rapid growth of Lincoln Waste Solutions, highlighting the achievement of establishing a top-tier waste management business in North America in just over a year. He emphasized that the acquisition positions Reconomy to meet its strategic goals, including achieving leadership in core markets and fostering sustainable growth.
Michael Williams, Executive Vice President of Circular Solutions for North America at Reconomy, noted that the addition of NWA aligns well with Lincoln Waste Solutions, expanding their customer reach and enhancing their service offerings. This integration is expected to facilitate the delivery of innovative circular solutions across North America.
Carmine Esposito, CEO of National Waste Associates, remarked on the synergy between NWA and Lincoln Waste Solutions, stating that the partnership will enable them to leverage Reconomy’s global expertise and advanced technology to enhance their service offerings and drive growth.
As Reconomy continues to expand its operations in the US, this acquisition underscores the company’s commitment to addressing the challenges of waste management and promoting sustainable practices in one of the world’s largest markets.
