ABP is pleased to announce that green energy is now being produced at the UK’s most inland port – Goole – after a successful £1 million rooftop solar initiative.

The major 14-week project saw the installation of 4,341 solar panels across four rooftops, creating enough electricity during peak generation times to run the Port of Goole solely from clean energy.

It will produce enough electricity (1.1 megawatts) to power around 154 residential homes per year. Any surplus energy supplies will be exported to the National Grid.

ABP Humber Director, Simon Bird, said: “This is a real green milestone for the Port of Goole, as the first time in history, it has the capability of running exclusively from clean, solar electricity.

“This extensive project wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work of all of those involved in delivering this during inclement weather, to make sure we are ready to make the most of key generating periods.

“This is an exciting time for ABP, as we continue to pave the way for a greener future.”

Britain’s biggest ports operator, ABP, is on track to become one of the largest corporate solar producers in the UK. Recently, the Port of Immingham has upped its solar production to over 4megawatts and was recognised for its green efforts at the Solar Power Portal Awards, winning Commercial Roof Top Solar Project of The Year 2018.

The UK’s leading commercial solar installer, Custom Solar, completed the installation.
