Nordex has received its first major order for the N175/6.X turbines in the Baltic states.
The 16 turbines ordered are for Sia Laflora Energy’s 108.8 MW Laflora[1] wind farm project, located in the south-west of Riga, Latvia, and will be the cold climate version of the N175/6.X range.
The turbines will be installed on Nordex’s in-house developed hybrid towers with hub heights of 179 metres.
The Sia Laflora Energy order is the first in Latvia for Nordex and the first major order for the N175/6.X turbine in the Baltic states, the German turbine manufacturer said.
As well as the supply and installation of 16 turbines, the contract for the project also includes a premium plus service contract for the turbines for a 35-year period.
The wind farm is expected to be commissioned in the summer of 2026.
Patxi Landa, CSO of the Nordex Group, said the N175/6.X turbines[2] will be the biggest turbines in the Baltic region to date in terms of rotor diameter and with a hub height of 179 metres.
“We believe the N175/6.X is the perfect fit for plenty of projects in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia,” Landa said.
Sia Laflora Energy is a subsidiary of peat extraction and processing company Laflora. Latvian wind energy company Windy developed the project on behalf of Laflora, while components of the hybrid towers will be produced by Consolis Latvija, a Consolis group company.
The wind farm itself is now 100% owned by state energy company Latvenergo Group and will be installed in a former peat extraction area of the Kaigu bog in the municipality of Līvbērze in the Jelgava region.
Latvenergo is aiming to have 600MW of wind and solar capacity by 2026 and 2.3GW by 2030.
