On Wednesday 4th September, Secretary of State Rt. Hon Ed Davey MP will provide the keynote speech at the launch of Power from Renewables, the second report in the three-part Future Electricity Series. The report will be launched at a two-hour parliamentary seminar debate, featuring politicians from all three major political parties.
Power from Renewables is sponsored by Siemens and Dong Energy, and is part of the Future Electricity Series, sponsored by the Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers (IGEM).
About the report
Power from Renewables examines how renewables technologies can contribute to giving the UK secure, sustainable and affordable electricity in the short, medium and long term. It does so in the context of recent policy developments in the Energy Bill, Electricity Market Reform and new planning guidelines for community benefits. Highlighting areas of consensus, certainty and uncertainty and backed by a wealth of evidence, the report sets the scene for constructive strategic debate and points to future policy challenges.
The inquiry is the second inquiry in the Future Electricity Series, a series of three inquiries throughout 2013 by independent think tank Carbon Connect and chaired by Charles Hendry MP (former Energy Minister) and Baroness Worthington (Shadow Energy Minister). The Future Electricity Series is sponsored by the Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers (IGEM) and the Power from Renewables inquiry is sponsored by Siemens and Dong Energy. This follows Part One of the Future Electricity Series – Power from Fossil Fuels – which was published on 22 April 2013. A similar report on nuclear power will follow in the remainder of 2013.
