Points of Interest (POIs) specifically developed to guide and inform Electric Vehicle (EV) drivers.
GENEVA, March 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — [WorldofRenewables.com]
NAVTEQ, the leading global provider of maps, traffic and location data enabling navigation, location-based services and mobile advertising around the world is supplying Nissan with a specialized dataset which provides relevant location information, such as location of charging stations, to drivers of the new 100% electric Nissan LEAF. This POI information was collected by NAVTEQ particularly for drivers of electric vehicles.
With first deliveries in Europe due in the first quarter of 2011, the Nissan LEAF includes the Nissan Connect powered by CARWINGS navigation system as standard so drivers will be able to benefit from the EV dedicated NAVTEQ POIs which contain key information for Nissan LEAF owners. In addition to the location of charging stations, the data also features details such as the type (normal or quick) and number of connectors.
“The system provides real-time information to the driver, including the location of the nearest charging station. It also allows the driver to optimize the car’s driving range,” commented Tom Smith, Nissan LEAF Chief Marketing Manager, Nissan International SA. “This ability to ‘read the road ahead’, relies on an accurate, precise map. NAVTEQ’s unique approach to quality is key to the value of this offering as it helps give drivers the confidence they need when they drive to find EV charging stations.”
For accuracy and currency, NAVTEQ is continuously updating the information ready for quarterly delivery to the NISSAN CARWINGS Data Center – a globally common platform providing identical telematics services via mobile network. Nissan has developed a sophisticated IT system for Nissan LEAF which can connect to the NISSAN CARWINGS Data Center to receive dynamic content 24/7.
“Having been at the forefront of technology with our product portfolio for many years, we are delighted to have been able to contribute to the development of Nissan’s environmentally friendly car,” added Bruno Bourguet, SVP Sales EMEA, NAVTEQ. “This again underscores our commitment to lead in new and fast emerging developments like the Electric Vehicle.”
NAVTEQ EV POIs are currently available for Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, Spain and the UK with plans to expand right across Europe.
