Today the largest site for turbine prototyping and certification in Europe is opened.
Lelystad, the Netherlands
At the start, Test Site Lelystad meets a large demand with wind turbine manufactures for testing their latest designs. The coming seven years the test site if fully booked.
Further innovation in wind power industry
The test facilities are crucial for innovation in the wind turbine sector. They are needed for certification, which is required for instance to receive permits. Manufactures will also use the test location in their own innovation programmes. The new wind turbine test site in Lelystad provides all infrastructure, wind measurements and wind turbine measurements that are required for turbine certification.
The Dutch testing facility, on Wageningen University grounds and operated by Ecofys Wind Turbine Testing Services (WTTS), can service twelve turbines with tip heights up to 200 meters and a combined installed capacity of up to 30 MW. The accredited measurement services are provided by Ecofys in collaboration with windtest grevenbroich GmbH.
Test Site Lelystad fully booked for the coming seven years
The European wind turbine sector has shown a great need of a test site like Test Site Lelystad. Seven international parties already contracted WTTS to test their turbines.
Test Site Lelystad is another link in realizing a sustainable energy supply
Test Site Lelystad contributes to realising a fully sustainable and renewable global energy system. According to the recent published Energy Report by Ecofys and WWF, wind energy is one main factor in achieving such an energy system by 2050 across the planet. “We can do this by improving the technologies that are already at hand,” says Manon Janssen, CEO of Ecofys.
