JA Expands Battery Energy Storage Solutions for Commercial and Industrial Sectors

JA Solar, a prominent name in photovoltaic products and integrated energy solutions, has announced an expansion of its battery energy storage offerings tailored for the commercial and industrial (C&I) sectors in Europe. This expansion includes the launch of two new systems: JAPlanet Fusion and JAPlanet 2.0, both designed to enhance energy management and operational efficiency for businesses.

Introducing JAPlanet Fusion

The JAPlanet Fusion system represents a significant advancement in energy storage technology. This DC-coupled hybrid solution integrates an inverter, battery storage, and backup functionality into a single, cohesive system. The design aims to simplify the installation and commissioning processes by reducing the number of system interfaces and cabling, which also lowers space requirements and mitigates compatibility issues that can arise from using separately sourced components.

At the core of JAPlanet Fusion is a 261-kWh battery cabinet with a rated power output of 125 kW. The modular architecture of this system allows for scalability, supporting up to ten units in parallel for on-grid applications and up to six units in off-grid mode. This flexibility enables businesses to tailor the system capacity to their specific project requirements.

JAPlanet Fusion is particularly beneficial for solar repowering projects, accommodating photovoltaic (PV) inputs of up to 250 kWp. This capability allows for the installation of additional solar capacity on the DC side, supporting up to 20 strings and 10 maximum power point (MPP) trackers, while ensuring that the AC output remains within the site’s permitted grid power limits. For asset owners, this presents an opportunity to maximise the value derived from existing solar installations and grid connections, while simultaneously enhancing energy storage capabilities and operational resilience.

Moreover, the system is equipped with an integrated static transfer switch (STS) that can detect grid failures and switch to off-grid operation within a mere 10 milliseconds, ensuring continuity for critical loads. Safety features include liquid cooling, continuous temperature monitoring, smoke and gas detection, integrated aerosol fire suppression, and dual-channel redundant ventilation, all compliant with NFPA 69 standards. JAPlanet Fusion has also undergone UL 9540A testing, validating its safety and performance at the system level.

JAPlanet 2.0: The Next Generation of AC-Coupled BESS

Complementing the JAPlanet Fusion is the JAPlanet 2.0, which represents the latest generation of JA’s AC-coupled battery energy storage technology. This system also features a 261 kWh capacity and boasts a remarkable round-trip efficiency of over 90%. It is designed to operate without derating at ambient temperatures reaching up to 50°C, making it suitable for a variety of environmental conditions.

The intelligent thermal management system integrated into JAPlanet 2.0 reduces auxiliary power consumption by 20% compared to conventional systems, thereby enhancing overall system efficiency. Safety is a priority, with cell-level monitoring and UL 9540A certification ensuring that the entire battery product meets stringent safety standards.

JAPlanet 2.0 is equipped with JANebula, an integrated energy management system (EMS) that supports multiple applications, including time-of-use management, peak shaving, and increased self-consumption of PV energy. This aligns with EU regulations on product safety and security, further enhancing its appeal to businesses looking for reliable energy solutions.

Availability and Future Prospects

Both JAPlanet Fusion and JAPlanet 2.0 are set to be available for pre-order in Europe from the latter half of September 2026, with initial deliveries of JAPlanet Fusion expected by the end of the fourth quarter of 2026. These innovative systems are also being showcased at JA’s Journey Ahead 2026 customer roadshow, which runs until the end of October 2026, providing an opportunity for stakeholders to learn more about these advanced energy solutions.

Ignacio Espinosa Gil, Head of the European Technical Team at JA, highlighted the growing need for businesses to upgrade aging solar assets with more powerful technology. He noted that while grid constraints can complicate the process of increasing generation capacity, JAPlanet Fusion is designed to streamline system design and deployment, thereby enhancing solar utilisation and resilience for existing infrastructures.
