INTERXION HOLDING NV (NYSE: INXN), a leading European provider of carrier-neutral colocation data centre services, today announced that its Belgian data centre has taken the strategic decision to be supplied 100% by green energy.
Working in partnership with its energy supplier, Interxion’s Belgium site now sources all of its energy from renewable sources such a solar, wind and hydroelectric power.
As more and more applications move into the cloud and rely on the Internet to deliver their services, data centres such as Interxion have an increasingly critical role to play not just in the housing and delivery of these applications, but also in ensuring they are housed in the most energy-efficient environments.
“Interxion recognises that as a pan-European provider of power-intensive data centre services, it has a duty to provide leadership and model practice in maximising energy efficiency and sustainability. This move to 100% green energy further reflects our commitment and reassures our customers that we always endeavour to provide the most energy-efficient environment, whether that be through the power we offer or the overall design of our sites”, commented Frederik Dewulf, Managing Director Interxion Belgium.
Interxion has always been committed to helping the industry implement and define best practice in achieving data centre efficiency, and providing its customers with 100% green power is only one aspect of its sustainability strategy. Ali Moinuddin, Director of Marketing Interxion, is also the co-chair for The Green Grid European Communications Committee and actively participates in identifying and promoting best practice around energy efficiency in ICT infrastructure. The Green Grid is a global consortium of IT companies and professionals seeking to improve energy efficiency in data centres and business computing ecosystems around the globe.
In addition to its activities with the Green Grid, Interxion is also a founding member of the Uptime Institute’s European Chapter and a member of the European Commission’s DG Joint Research Committee on Sustainability and its European Data Centre Code of Conduct Metrics Group.
