GDF Suez Opens 18-MW Wind Farm in Brazil

Utility group GDF Suez has inaugurated an 18-megawatt (MW) wind farm in Brazil. The Pedra do Sal wind power plant in the State of Piaui, in the northeast of Brazil will ensure improved quality of electricity supply in the region, the company said

In related news, GDF has also announced that construction of the 38-MW Monte Redondo wind farm, located 320 kilometers north of Santiago in Chile, began at the start of this year.

The development will cost US $120 million and is due to become operational in October 2009. GDF has reached a deal at an auction to sell 100 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of the output from the project per year. The deal was organized by the local distribution company CGE. The contract runs for 14 years and starts in January 2010.
