Cadeler heavy lift vessel Wind Orca is nearing completion of turbine installations at the Moray West offshore wind farm site in Scotland, with just six turbines remaining to be installed, according to the latest Notice to Mariners.
Moray West, part of Ocean Winds’ 6 GW portfolio of secured offshore wind farms in the UK, features 60 Siemens Gamesa SG 14-222 DD wind turbines. Supplied with “Power Boost”, each unit can generate up to 14.7 MW output.
All turbine components for Siemens Gamesa are being gathered at the Port of Nigg, where Cadeler’s Wind Orca[1] is handling the installations.
The vessel arrived on site in April to install the first offshore wind turbine generators (WTGs) onto the previously set monopiles[2] and transition pieces (TPs)[3].
Several months later, the 882 wind farm delivered the first power[4] and exported it to Scotland’s National Electricity Transmission System (NETS).
On 16 August, the project’s developer Ocean Winds announced on social media that more than half of the units were installed at the site, approximately 22.5 kilometres from the Caithness coastline.
