Nine companies are looking to qualify to bid in Colombia’s first seabed lease tender for offshore wind projects, the country’s ministry of mines and energy has announced.
Seven foreign developers and two Colombian firms have filed accreditation documents with the country’s National Hydrocarbons Agency (NHA) ahead of a seabed lease tender due to be held in the first half of next year.
This application process allows the government to determine which companies can submit offers and secure permits for offshore wind development, the ministry of mines and energy explained.
Colombia is looking to award seabed leases in shallow and deep waters off the coasts of Atlántico, Bolívar, southern Magdalena and northern Sucre that could support 1-3GW of offshore wind capacity.
The following companies have submitted their authorisation documents:
- BlueFloat Energy from Spain;
- Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners from Denmark;
- Jan de Nul from Belgium;
- Deme from Belgium;
- Dyna Energy from the UK;
- Powerchina from China;
- China Three Gorges Corporation from China;
- Ecopetrol from Colombia; and
- Celsia from Colombia.
The ministry of mines and energy expects to make available a final list of qualified bidders by December.
