Chinese manufacturer Envision is in line to supply Saudi developer Acwa Power’s 1.1GW wind farm in the Gulf of Suez in Egypt.
Acwa “has selected Envision turbines and is currently undertaking supply chain due diligence”, according to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
The EBRD is in turn considering providing a $200 million loan for the wind farm.
Acwa is looking to develop the project alongside the EBRD, French investment and asset manager Meridiam and Egypt’s Hassan Allam Utilities.
EBRD documents reveal the developers plan to use 138 of Envision’s 8MW turbines with rotor diameters of 182 metres and hub heights of 110 metres. The project would be split into two sites, with each featuring 69 turbines.
Envision was the largest Chinese supplier of wind turbines abroad[1] in 2023, according to Wood Mackenzie figures.
Acwa previously tapped Envision to supply 1GW of turbines[2] for two of its projects in Uzbekistan.
