Energy Estate Digital has announced its intention to develop AI-ready data center hubs in Tasmania, with the first facility planned for Bell Bay. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to support renewable energy and infrastructure development in the region, facilitated through a memorandum of understanding with H2U Group.
The data hubs are designed to align with the recently unveiled Australian National AI Plan, which emphasizes the importance of fostering artificial intelligence capabilities within the country. The facilities will be powered by renewable energy sources and include storage solutions to accommodate energy-intensive industries, particularly those focused on AI technologies.
In addition to the data hubs, Energy Estate Digital is advancing its EE Digital platform, which aims to enhance Australia’s sovereign AI capabilities. A significant component of this initiative includes the development of new subsea data cables that will connect Australia and New Zealand to major global markets, including California, Japan, and India. This infrastructure is expected to facilitate improved data transfer and communication, further integrating Australia into the global digital economy.
The establishment of these data centers and subsea cables represents a strategic move to position Tasmania as a key player in the AI and renewable energy sectors, potentially attracting investment and talent to the region. As the demand for data processing and storage continues to rise, the development of such facilities is likely to play a crucial role in meeting future technological needs while promoting sustainable energy practices.
