On September 15, 2026, CYCAP, a prominent asset manager in the renewable energy sector, announced the appointment of Dr. Ole Jürgens as its new Chief Development Officer (CDO). This strategic move is aimed at strengthening the company’s Asset Development team as it continues to expand its operations in repowering and hybridization.
Strengthening Leadership Amid Growth
Dr. Jürgens, who has been with CYCAP since 2019, will take charge of Asset Development, Technical Asset Management, Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management (EPC-M), as well as Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE). His appointment comes at a time when CYCAP is actively managing Germany’s largest repowering fund, which is currently engaged in repowering at least 29 existing assets. This initiative is supported by a unique €1.6 billion banking club facility that has garnered several awards in 2026.
Frank Grafe, who previously held a significant role in the Asset Development team, will now concentrate on the on-the-ground development work related to the assets. He will continue to serve as Managing Director of project-specific companies and other CYCAP entities, leveraging his extensive network with municipalities, local officials, and landowners.
Focus on Repowering and Hybridization
CYCAP’s growth strategy is heavily centred on repowering and hybridization, which are seen as key value drivers for the company’s investment funds. The repowering process involves upgrading existing wind and solar assets to enhance their efficiency and output, while hybridization refers to the integration of different energy generation technologies to optimise performance and reliability. Detlef Schreiber, CEO of CYCAP, emphasised the importance of these competencies, stating, “We have two core competencies, and both need to be led at the highest level. This is a direct result of our growth and the right foundation for what we have planned with our repowering and hybridization funds.”
Dr. Ole Jürgens: A Proven Leader in Renewable Energy
Dr. Jürgens brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Prior to his appointment as CDO, he served as Senior Investment Manager and Head of Project Development at CYCAP, where he played a crucial role in building the Asset Development department alongside Frank Grafe. His background includes serving as Managing Director at a renewable energy project developer and working as a research associate at Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg, where he earned his doctorate in economics. He holds degrees in business administration and economics from Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel.
In his new position, Dr. Jürgens expressed his enthusiasm for the challenges ahead, stating, “I am delighted by the trust placed in me. Repowering and hybridization are complex because they take place within existing, operational structures: active funds, existing contracts and assets in active operation. My goal is to systematically and reliably unlock the next stage of value creation from our existing portfolio, delivering excellent results for our investors.”
Complexities of Repowering and Hybridization
The processes of repowering and hybridization are not without their challenges. As Detlef Schreiber noted, these initiatives require a multifaceted approach that encompasses investment, technical, and development logic. The transitions between these disciplines must be managed with precision, particularly in the context of existing operational structures. Schreiber highlighted the importance of building trust with local decision-makers, stating, “The current political environment in particular shows just how critical it is to build trust with local decision-makers early on – this is not a side activity, but a core competency.”
CYCAP: A Leader in Renewable Energy Asset Management
CYCAP, formerly known as CEE Group, is a specialised asset manager for renewable energies, managing €2.7 billion in assets across nine investment vehicles and 103 wind and solar assets. With a workforce of 150 employees based in Hamburg, CYCAP combines 25 years of operational experience with fully integrated in-house expertise, including fund management, deal sourcing, asset development, active asset management, and a dedicated AI team. The company prides itself on lifecycle responsibility without third-party management and fragmentation, positioning itself as a leader in the renewable energy sector.
As CYCAP continues to expand its operations and enhance its asset development capabilities, the appointment of Dr. Ole Jürgens as CDO marks a significant step towards achieving its strategic goals in the rapidly evolving renewable energy landscape.
