My claim to fame on the renewables front is that I co-founded All-Energy, now the UK’s largest renewable and low carbon energy exhibition and conference. It was acquired by RX Global in 2011 and I am retained as a consultant creating the 600+/- speaker conference; as an ambassador for the show; and also handling PR for it. I was awarded MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 2014; and became a Fellow the Society of Underwater Technology that same year and was its President in 2021-2022. Back in 2012 I was awarded the Scottish Green Energy ‘Outstanding Contribution’ Award. The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) has today published the industry’s first standard contract for transport and installation (T&I) works in offshore wind projects. The contract has been written to ensure a fairer allocation of risk.

Ignitis Renewables, an international green energy company, has awarded Fugro a contract to conduct a geophysical survey at Lithuania’s first offshore wind farm site. This critical step in the project’s development aims to enhance the understanding of seabed conditions, which will inform the location, construction and design of future wind turbines at the Baltic Sea.

Germany’s Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency, the Bundesamt für Seeschifffahrt und Hydrographie (BSH), has awarded Fugro a geophysical survey contract for two offshore wind farm sites in the German exclusive economic zone (EEZ) in the North Sea. Working in collaboration with Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems (IWES), Fugro’s Geo-data will be integrated with its ultra high resolution multichannel seismic data (UHR MCS) and used by BSH to develop geological models of the offshore sites and support subsequent geotechnical investigations.The project is due to start this week, with Fugro mobilising a dedicated survey vessel to perform high-precision positioning, sub-bottom profiling…
The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) campaign on sustainable contracting in offshore wind has been recognised by the UK’s first Offshore Wind Champion, and previous co-chair of the Offshore Wind Acceleration Taskforce (May 2022 to March 2023), Tim Pick. Tim Pick was commissioned by the UK Government to explore the challenges for offshore wind and published his independent report, Seizing our Opportunities, at the beginning of April. Geo-data specialist Fugro has been awarded a contract to perform an offshore geotechnical site investigation for Australia’s offshore wind project Star of the South (SOTS), located off the coast of Gippsland southeast of Australia.

The world’s first fully remote inspection of offshore wind farm assets has been successfully carried out by Fugro, using one of its Blue Essence® uncrewed surface vessels (USVs) with Blue Volta®, an electrical remotely operated vehicle (eROV).
