The American Coalition for Ethanol (ACE) today congratulated Valero Energy Corporation on the company’s announcement that it will introduce E-85 at new Valero Corner Stores as they are built, and that E-85 would be added to some existing stores as they undergo major remodels.

“This type of effort by a large retailer like Valero can have a dramatic effect on the availability of E85 and other ethanol blended fuels,” said Ron Lamberty, Vice President and Director of Market Development for ACE. “Valero’s effort to increase E85 availability shows a confidence that higher ethanol blends will be a growing part of the marketplace,” Lamberty said, “and it will give Valero a leg up in on other retailers who will need to have that same E85 capability to compete for a growing number of new flexible fuel vehicles.” Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors have committed to having 50 percent or more flex-fuel vehicles by model year 2012.

Valero Energy Corporation is based in San Antonio, Texas. The company owns and operates 15 refineries. Valero also owns 10 ethanol plants in the Midwest. The company is also billed as one of the nation’s largest retail operators with nearly 5000 retail and branded outlets in the US, Canada, and the Caribbean under the Valero, Diamond Shamrock, Ultramar and Beacon brands.
