Actis, a prominent investor in sustainable infrastructure, has officially launched TERRANOVA, a new hyperscale data center platform designed to support the growing digital infrastructure needs in Latin America. The initiative aims to address the increasing demand for cloud and AI services in key markets including Brazil, Mexico, and Chile.
The company plans to invest $1.5 billion over the next three years to develop a series of modern data center campuses across these countries. The first facility is set to be operational in the Querétaro region of Mexico by the first quarter of 2026. Subsequent campuses are planned for Campinas, Brazil, and Chile, with expected completion dates in 2027 and 2028, respectively.
TERRANOVA has already secured land and power in strategic locations, with the potential to deploy up to 1 gigawatt of data center capacity in the future. This foundational setup is seen as crucial for meeting the anticipated surge in digital infrastructure demand across the region.
According to José Eduardo Quintella, CEO of TERRANOVA, the Latin American market is entering a significant phase of digital infrastructure growth, driven by the increasing reliance on cloud computing and AI technologies. Quintella emphasized the company’s commitment to disciplined growth, focusing on building scalable and efficient data centers that can earn the trust of clients through reliable performance.
Actis brings extensive experience in developing and operating data centers from its operations in Asia, including countries like China, South Korea, and Malaysia. This expertise will be leveraged to enhance TERRANOVA’s operations, allowing for the sharing of technical knowledge and operational best practices across different markets.
Mauricio Giusti from Actis highlighted the synergy between their existing data center operations in Asia and the new developments in Latin America. He noted that this collaboration would facilitate the delivery of scalable and energy-efficient solutions tailored for both global and regional clients.
In line with its commitment to sustainability, TERRANOVA aims to incorporate renewable energy sources and efficiency principles into its campuses, promoting low-carbon growth in the region. The founding team of TERRANOVA boasts over 150 years of combined experience in data center development and operations, positioning the company to effectively navigate the complexities of the Latin American market.
With secured power and strategic site locations, TERRANOVA is poised for responsible and scalable growth, aiming not just to increase capacity but to redefine the standards of hyperscale data centers in Latin America.
