RIX Industries has officially opened the Otterson Center of Excellence for Advanced Development, a significant new facility designed to bolster the company’s engineering capabilities and accelerate innovation in gas compression and generation technologies. The center, located close to RIX’s headquarters in Benicia, California, is nearly three times larger than the previous development site, allowing for enhanced collaboration among engineering teams and improved access to shared resources.
The new facility was inaugurated on November 7, during a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by local officials, including representatives from the Benicia Chamber of Commerce and state and federal government offices. RIX leaders, including Executive Chairman Bert Otterson and President and CEO Dana Otterson James, highlighted the strategic importance of the center in supporting the company’s growth and innovation objectives.
The Otterson Center will focus on advancing core technologies related to gas compression, exploring next-generation control systems, and evaluating new materials and components. It is designed primarily for prototyping, testing, and iterative engineering, which will facilitate faster development cycles for new products. This initiative aligns with RIX’s long-term strategy to enhance its offerings across various sectors, including industrial, defense, aerospace, and energy markets.
Anil Raina, RIX’s Chief Technology Officer, emphasized that the co-location of advanced development teams with the company’s headquarters is intended to foster tighter collaboration and agility in exploring new technologies and market opportunities. This move is expected to strengthen RIX’s position in meeting the evolving needs of its customers.
Local officials have recognized the opening of the center as a positive development for the regional economy, anticipating that it will support high-skill engineering jobs and enhance Benicia’s reputation as a center for advanced manufacturing and technology. Dana Otterson James remarked on RIX’s long-standing commitment to the Benicia community, stating that the investment in the new facility reflects the company’s dedication to solving customer challenges and advancing critical technologies.
Founded in 1878, RIX Industries has a long history of providing gas generation systems and precision compressor solutions, serving various markets including marine, aerospace, and medical. The establishment of the Otterson Center of Excellence marks a significant step in the company’s ongoing efforts to innovate and expand its capabilities in the gas technology sector.
