Yanmar Compact Equipment (Yanmar CE) has announced the appointment of Anton Wörmann, a Swedish property renovator and entrepreneur, as its first global brand ambassador. This partnership aims to highlight the intersection of sustainable renovation practices and advanced machinery, particularly in the context of restoring Japan’s traditional ‘akiya’ homes, which are often abandoned and in need of revitalization.
Wörmann’s work has garnered attention for its focus on preserving the craftsmanship and history embedded in older structures. He emphasizes the importance of using appropriate machinery to ensure that renovations are conducted safely and sustainably. “For me, this ambassadorship is about linking two histories,” Wörmann stated, noting the shared values between his restoration efforts and Yanmar’s engineering heritage.
As part of his role, Wörmann will engage in various global content projects and represent Yanmar at major construction trade shows, including ConExpo in Las Vegas and CSPI in Tokyo. His influence spans across the United States, Europe, and Asia, where he connects with younger audiences who prioritize authenticity and responsible building practices.
Elsie De Nys, Global Director of Brand Marketing and CSR at Yanmar CE, expressed confidence in Wörmann’s alignment with the company’s values. She highlighted his respect for older buildings and the positive impact of his work on local communities. This partnership is seen as a natural evolution of Yanmar’s commitment to sustainability, encapsulated in their philosophy of ‘Building With You’.
Wörmann’s collaboration with Yanmar began during his renovation of a house in Tokyo’s Nakano district, where he utilized the company’s SV05 mini excavator. This compact machinery was essential for navigating the narrow access points of the site, demonstrating how specialized equipment can facilitate careful renovations in challenging environments. Wörmann has since obtained a Japanese operator license and invested in his own Yanmar machinery, marking a significant commitment to his renovation projects.
The partnership has also led to the creation of Yanmar CE’s “For the Builders” video series, which showcases individuals who contribute to their communities through hands-on work. The latest episode features Wörmann’s Waterfall House project in Chiba prefecture, where he tackled demanding groundwork using Yanmar equipment. The project exemplifies the blend of traditional Japanese garden principles with Wörmann’s Scandinavian design approach, reflecting his thoughtful methodology in renovation.
Through this collaboration, Wörmann and Yanmar CE aim to inspire a global audience to adopt more sustainable building practices, reinforcing the importance of respecting heritage while innovating for the future.
