RES, a leading independent renewable energy company, has announced the signing of its first operation and maintenance (O&M) contract with Matrix Renewables, a rapidly growing independent power producer supported by TPG Rise. This contract marks a significant milestone for RES as it expands its solar operations in Spain, covering over 300 megawatts (MW) of photovoltaic power across five provinces: Jaén, Huelva, Seville, Badajoz, and Valladolid.
The agreement is particularly strategic for RES, as it strengthens the company’s presence in key regions such as Andalusia and Extremadura, while also consolidating its operations in Castile and León, an area crucial to Spain’s solar energy expansion. Matrix Renewables operates in multiple countries, including Spain, Italy, the UK, Chile, and the US, and is recognized for its integrated operating model that manages the entire lifecycle of its energy assets.
Manuel Sánchez-Merenciano, Global Head of Solar/Storage/Green H2 – O&M Services at RES, emphasized the significance of this partnership, stating that it reflects the confidence major independent power producers (IPPs) have in RES’s ability to optimize the performance of diverse solar portfolios. He noted that Matrix Renewables sets high operational quality standards, and RES is well-equipped to meet these demands through its global experience and advanced digital capabilities.
This contract comes at a pivotal moment for RES, which has recently been ranked second worldwide in solar O&M services by consulting firm Wood Mackenzie. This recognition underscores RES’s extensive reach and geographical diversification in the sector, affirming its capability to deliver high-quality services under stringent safety and technical standards.
Currently, RES manages a total of 21.9 gigawatts (GW) of solar power globally, with 8.5 GW in Spain alone, positioning it as the national leader in solar O&M services. The company also leads in the EMEA region with 13 GW under management and has seen significant growth in the Americas, increasing its capacity by over 50% in the past year. In the United States, RES has reached 3 GW, while in Chile, it maintains its status as the leading ISP with 2.3 GW of solar power under management.
The new contract with Matrix Renewables is a crucial step in RES’s growth and diversification strategy, reinforcing its role as a preferred partner for major IPPs seeking to enhance the performance and reliability of their solar assets in a competitive market. As RES continues to expand its managed photovoltaic capacity, this agreement further solidifies its position as a key player in the Spanish solar market, particularly in the demanding field of solar operation and maintenance.
