Vestas has signed a multi-year service contract with Purus to utilise the company’s commissioning service operation vessel (CSOV) newbuild which is currently under construction at Vard’s shipyard in Norway.
The contract with the Danish wind turbine manufacturer will commence immediately after the vessel’s launch in 2025, Purus said.
The Purus Chinook vessel can house up to 120 people and also offers an all-electric gangway, 18-metre helideck, 5+ tonne 3D motion compensated crane, and next-generation Chartwell twelve-passenger daughter craft.
Purus Chinook will be the first Vard 419 delivered to Purus’ operated fleet, with the sister vessel, Purus Coriolis, expected for delivery in 2026.
The design is also prepared for future operations on methanol, providing an additional sustainable option to the operation.
Vard signed a contract with Purus for the delivery of two CSOVs in May 2023.
In terms of recent news coming from Vestas, the company signed a conditional order agreement[1] with Inch Cape Offshore Limited (ICOL), a joint venture between ESB and Red Rock Renewables, at the beginning of this month for the supply of V236-15.0 MW wind turbines for the 1.1 GW Inch Cape offshore wind farm in Scotland.
