South Korean Taihan Cable & Solution is planning to build its second submarine cable manufacturing facility, adjacent to the first one whose first phase was launched earlier this year. Taihan opened the first phase of its first submarine cable plant which focuses on producing inter-array cables, covering around 44,800 square metres behind Godae Pier at Pyeongtaek’s Dangjin Port, in May. The plant is producing inter-array cables for the South Korean Yeonggwang Nakwol offshore wind project[1]. The second phase, which includes facilities for the production of export cables, is currently at 40 per cent in the construction process, with plans for completion…
During the “International Aviation and Climate Change” event held as part of COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) President Samir Rzayev discussed efforts to reduce carbon emissions in the aviation and energy sectors, reports APA. “We produce crude oil with 9.6 kilograms of CO2 emissions per barrel, while the global average is 32 kilograms per barrel,” Rzayev said, drawing attention to the progress made in reducing environmental impact. He also pointed to the growing fuel needs of the aviation industry. “Currently, aviation uses 6.3 million barrels of jet fuel daily, and this number is expected to increase to 8.3 million…
The Crown Estate has pledged GBP 7.3 million (approximately EUR 8.76 million) to support five research projects aimed at accelerating the UK’s path towards a net-zero energy system while also protecting marine ecosystems. According to the Crown Estate, the five projects will aim to fill gaps around the impacts of offshore wind farms on marine ecosystems, advance solutions to reduce those impacts, enhance access to marine data, and explore the opportunity for the co-location of fisheries and offshore wind farms. One of the funded projects is Disco Scallops, which developed a new low-impact fishing technique that led to a 500…
Wienerberger India[1]‘s flagship product, Porotherm Smart Bricks, has demonstrated an exceptional environmental performance in a recent Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) conducted by LEAD Consultancy and Engineering Services (India) Pvt Ltd. The LCA, adopted the ‘Cradle to Grave’ approach, adhering to international standards (EN 15804+A2 & ISO 14025 / ISO 21930) and assessed the Global Warming Potential (GWP) of various walling materials. The ‘Cradle to Grave’ approach covers entire life cycle of a product from the excavation of raw materials to manufacturing process, transportation, installation, and usage to its end-of-life phases. Porotherm Smart Bricks including Porotherm HP, Porotherm Plus, FB Exteria and…

A research team led by Dr. Choi, Young-chan from the Clean Air Research Laboratory at the Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER) has successfully converted cashew nut shells, discarded during cashew nut food product manufacturing, into an eco-friendly biofuel.Producing biofuel from biomass in Korea is very challenging. Due to the limited availability of single types of biomass domestically, the cost of collecting various biomass sources makes it less economical compared to fossil fuels. Therefore, the research team focused on cashew nut shells, a material readily available overseas, which contains about 40% high-calorie oil components. The mechanical pressing process of producing biofuel from…
