The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) on January 8 awarded $46 million in loan assistance to the Vermont Energy Investment Corporation (VEIC) to support energy efficiency and renewable energy improvements in rural areas across the state. This is the largest Energy Efficiency and Conservation Loan Program project in terms of both financing and scale that the USDA’s Rural Utilities Service has made since the program’s launch in December 2013.
VEIC provides efficient lighting, appliances, equipment, and HVAC systems to residential and business customers and will operate and administer this program through Efficiency Vermont, an energy efficiency utility with a state-wide and predominantly rural service territory. Vermont dedicates a portion of its annual budget to services for low-income residents. VEIC’s partnership with Efficiency Vermont shows how utilities can enable large-scale energy efficiency and renewable investments. See the USDA news release.
